Ah, isn't democracy a wonderful thing? At least when the "candidate" you're supporting wins, it is. On Tuesday night, the judges eviscerated Casey James on national TV after what was, admittedly, a sub-par performance out of Casey's comfort zone (i.e., Dude, where's my guitar?). But later that same night, the Casey army came out in full force speaking loudly that Casey deserved to stay on American Idol and continue his journey all the way to the finals.
They remembered his "Jealous Guy" performance -- the artistry he showed in that raw emotion and vocal tenderness -- they remembered the rollicking performance of "Hold On, I'm Coming" where he showed the range of his talent. They thought back to just a week earlier when his revelatory "Don't" took their breath away. Each week that Casey has been on the American Idol stage he has brought it, performance after performance that has enthralled. And they said to the judges, you can't erase all that from our minds.
When Casey mentioned Tuesday night the call he received about a local gig, that reminded the viewers that all efforts to label Casey a construction worker or, worse, Kara's eye candy, completely miss the point. Casey is a musician. He was one before Idol and he will be one after. He has been given an amazing opportunity thanks to AI and he is making the most of it. He, more than anyone left, seems to really understand and appreciate just how lucky he is to have a chance to play for millions instead of dozens. That is why he keeps such a good attitude, even after being ripped to shreds after his performance Tuesday night.
If Casey fans can keep up the momentum for one more week, Casey will be able to show all of America his roots. His hometown, his family, the small places he's played and how long and hard he's been working to get where he is today. If you need to be reminded why Casey should stay, go check out all his past performances on AI. Without the filter of the judges' erratic responses (lavishing praise one week, destroying what they lauded the next) you will hear the next American Idol.
And we will be rallying the vote again this coming Tuesday!!!! Casey fans are in a frenzy because we realized this week WE really do have the POWER to keep him around!
ReplyDeleteNicely put!
ReplyDeleteI have a play list on youtube of all his performances that I listen to a lot and he kills it in all of them, but it's funny how the judges have a way of making you think he didn't...
Casey has been pushing the envelope every week during the entire competition. He never talks back to the judges, simply listens to the critique (sometimes constructive, sometimes brutal)with poise and graciousness and takes the advice (like a good artist should) and learns from it, grows from it, and improves because of it. Casey is great! Finally, a musician who really knows and understands music. Refreshing after the overproduced variety that has been so popular over the past decade!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog and you got it right. I liked Casey's performance Tuesday night I think the problem was that Casey was uncomfortable and it showed. Every other performance has been great! I've purchased all his songs from iTunes and they're all great. For anyone to think he should go home just because he was "out of his comfort zone" on Tuesday is just wrong. By the way, I'm one of Casey's army recruits!!
ReplyDeleteIt isn't a one song competition he's been one of the strongest and most consistent since day one. He was asked to go way out of his comfort zone on Tues and took his skewering like a man. His fans have not forgotten TWO brilliant performances in Jealous Guy and Don't. And he rocked us in Hold I'm Coming and Lawdy Miss Clawdy. The Casey Army is in effect don't tread on us Idol judges!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this positive article on our boy Casey James. It's refreshing to see other people finally seeing his talent like we, his fans do!! Yes, we rallied and did what we all needed to do to keep him in this competition because without a doubt he is extremely talented! He is always so humble and gracious and thankful to us, his family and friends for backing him on his journey!! He has what it takes to walk away with the Title, and we are going to do our part in seeing his dreams come true!!! He is so deserving of this and we all know it...thanks again for your support as well!!
ReplyDeleteCasey is great and just had an off night in a genre that is far from his style. Thenk God the voters dont really listen to the often non sensical comments of those so called judges. Hopefully the Casey momentum in terms of votes will continue next week.
ReplyDeleteFrom his first song during auditions to his first and only sub-par performand in 3 months, Casey has put his expertise and talent into every performance. I have seen casey perform since he was in his early 20's. It is so amazing to see how much he has grown in the past 3 months. His talent is endless and he puts no reigns on it. Love Casey James. Cannot wait to listen to him on my ride home each afternoon!
ReplyDeleteCome Casey you can win this thing and we can help!
Speaking on behalf of TEAM CASEY from Possum Kingdom Lake, home to one of those small places Casey played, folks here know first hand how long and hard he's been working. We were fortunate to have experienced Casey's raw talent without all the Hollywood noise. Idol is a giant platform and with it has come many challenges and obstacles. Casey's skill as a musician enables him to compete; his sportsmanship enables him to persevere. Add to that his fanbase, with our power to vote, Casey can win. As for us keeping up the momentum? I'm thinking we'll triple it!
ReplyDeleteI 100% agree with everyone's comments and am so excited to see what a difference we were able to make in the vote this week. It is really amazing to see what can be done when you really believe in someone and rally around them. We can and will voter harder next week to keep Casey's dream alive.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a great read. I'm a South African fan of Casey, where he is VERY popular. (But of course we can't vote!)I'm so ecstatic that his America fans pulled him through. I CRIED over the vicious personal attacks on him this week (though they were not the first!), and am overjoyed that it back-fired BIG time. Please TRIPLE your voting efforts next week. Easy to say when one doesn't have to do the hard work, but if I could have, I'd have been part of this Casey's Voting Army! THANKS TO EVERYONE!!
ReplyDeleteI've been on the "Casey Train" since day one, and I've got no intentions of getting off! He's already a star, and I'm going to vote till my hands fall off to keep him on Idol and helping his dream come true! He's the most gracious, humble guy on the show, and his talent is mesmerizing!
ReplyDeleteim huge fans of Casey James since top 24. he's amazing singer with a lot of talent and also great personality. he's always down to earth. how anyone dont love this guy??. he keeps doing consistently week after week. we have to keep Casey James with more vote to make him to final 2
ReplyDeleteWe have been a fan since the Chicago interview where he was made to take his shirt off. We have been mad at Kara and the Judges since then. We are here in Dallas, Tx and had 5 or six tx kids make the top 24 so we decided we would stay with the Idol this year. I am the mother of 3 sons and two grandsons all in their 18,25, 40, 45, and 50. I was embarrassed for Casey as he was not used to that and on TV---I was alredy in war with the judges then. But Crystal caught our eye and then is was Casey again and we have loved this kid. So yes he is the whole package. We will vote for him, buy his albums, and go see him in concert. We are huge fans and will help this fan club all we. can

ReplyDeleteI think Casey is going to be a huge star. He exudes a potent mix of grace, elegance, beauty and enormous talent, the likes I have never seen on any reality show. I find it almost uncomfortable to watch him having to (unfairly) endure the fickle, over-zealous (what's that all about?) whims of the judges. I live in Bahrain in the Middle East where he has many fans.I would love to vote, but cannot, so please everyone make a vote for me too. I have already got family and friends in Canada and America voting.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your positive comments about Casey. He's so talented and has done nothing to warrant the judges demeaning remarks.
ReplyDeleteGive an objective critique ? Yes, of course. Steamroll over him when he already down ? NO !!
I love rollicking good time party Casey and I love soulful, broken-hearted, fragile Casey. I hope there's 2 songs this week and we get one of each. I love his voice and musicianship and his attitude. Casey has more than earned his place in this competition by giving 2 of Idol's best moments this year with "Jealous Guy' and "Don't" - and multiple other excellent performances like "Heaven" and "You'll Think of Me, and "Hold On" - actually, except for this week, all the remainder would rate as very good solid performances. I would love to see him advance further in the competition.
Id like to have seen Frank Sinatra try to be Casey
ReplyDeleteI am another avid fan of Casey James from South Africa. I am so proud of the Casey fans who pulled through for Casey on this auspicious occasion. He did not need the Judges´save but rather we his fans all know what a wonderful musician and singer he is. I cannot stop listening to the studio version of Dont. It is being played all day long in my household.
ReplyDeleteI am not fooled by the Judges´attempts to push us into voting for their choice (Lee) as they did with Archuletta when Cook was the obvious musician of choice. They have their nefarious reasons but it will not detract us at all. Casey James for the final - that is what we must aim for.
well i will be voting the entire two hours to make sure he will make it to the next round,he is the only reason i watch the show,, and also the only reason i will be buying $300 tickets to see idols live!!! I don't really have that kind of money to be buying tickets, but if it gets me in font of the stage where casey will be preforming i just cant resist!!
ReplyDeleteFor the first time, I voted for Casey because of the judges criticism toward Casey. I know Casey has special talent and the look of star quality. I hope Casey deliver another momentum song and get a huge vote again to go further.
ReplyDeleteGod bless Casey!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes we sure did rock the vote - American Idol try as they might will not tell me who is and isn't good this year - Team Casey James mission to get him to the final 3 and his well deserved homecoming visit - Please vote for this talented and humble young man.
ReplyDeleteCasey James without a doubt is the American idol!
ReplyDeleteCasey James without a doubt is the American Idol!!
ReplyDeleteIt takes quality to know what quality is... Those people who doesn't know this about Casey is too cold or too ignorant to notice his rare talent and star quality...
ReplyDeleteI was so happy to see Casey not only moving Top 3 but also as a front runner. All the Votes (including me)were paid off. As this website said, "Judge Don't pick the Idol. We do".
ReplyDeleteFrom now on, Our goal is make Casey 2010 Idol.
Everyone please spend the 40 bucks and buy a Go Phone. Text will be what wins the competition. Every text counts and no busy signals. Ask to be taught how to multi-text and while texting have your computer using Dial Idol to vote for Casey. Casey deserves to be in the finale.
